ROTTEN TOMATO

Found Footage dudes pick a real winner

It must be said that Joe Pickett and Nick Prueher, creators of the Found Footage Festival, could easily succeed as progammers for late-night television, which is when that special genre of movie known as "It's so bad, it's actually kind of good?" airs. Now, you don't have to wait up until 3 a.m. For their Bad Movie Night at 92YTribeca, they've picked a real cringe-worthy sex comedy that even comes equipped with software SPF: Computer Beach Party. The 1988 flick, directed by Gary A. Troy (who, surprisingly, hasn't made another film since), tells the story of two computer-savvy guys who use their wits to prevent their favorite beach spot from being ruined by a greedy developer. The film features poorly dubbed dialogue, copious usage of the term "floppy disc," eager beach bunnies, and a musical performance by heavy-metal band Panther. Perhaps the only thing making this worth watching is the live commentary, trivia games, and some promised surprises—oh, and not viewing it alone.
