The Black Bird

(Tod Browning, 1926). Lon Chaney appears in what seems to be a double role—as a cruel leader of the London underworld and as his benign crippled brother. They're actually one person. The actor's transformation scenes, executed without trick photography, are remarkable—as are the beautifully atmospheric Limehouse sets, a credit to MGM's art department.
