Cue the ragtime music—the 2009 Bryant Park Summer Film Festival kicks off with the 1973 hit The Sting. Starring Paul Newman and Robert Redford as a couple of grifters in 1930s Chicago, the caper follows the sharp-suited antiheroes as they attempt a brilliant and mind-bogglingly elaborate con (don't blink or you'll never understand the ending) against the crime boss responsible for the murder of their friend. Directed by George Roy Hill, who worked with the actors a few years earlier in Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, The Sting won seven Oscars, including Best Picture and Best Original Screenplay.
