Gil Scott-Heron

It's been nearly four decades since spoken-word artist and soul/jazz musician Gil Scott-Heron set his poem "The Revolution Will Not Be Televised" to flute and bongos. And though the world still faces many of the same societal trappings he condemned in that song (corporate domination, the numbing effects of TV, Dick Clark), it's clear that his demands for racial equality have likely reached some ears through the years. Judging from his appearance at S.O.B.'s a few years ago, at age 60, he's as passionate about performing as ever.
