ANCHORS AWAY

A good day for a ferry ride

Your wait for the Staten Island Ferry gets a lot more exciting today when the dynamic choreographer Naomi Goldberg Haas's company Dances for a Variable Population takes over the newly redesigned Whitehall Ferry Terminal to perform the site-specific work Fanfare. Inspired by Aaron Copland's Fanfare for the Common Man, the suite of dances is performed by 12 dancers (of all shapes, colors, and sizes—Haas doesn't go for dainty clones) to the brass compositions of minimalist composer Michael Nyman. The work is a part of the LMCC Sitelines series of free outdoor lunchtime dance performances in Lower Manhattan.
