Admittedly, we first approached The Costello Show: A Burlesque Tribute to the Other Elvis! with some imperial skepticism. Could a campy, silly tribute possibly do justice to the Byzantine rock wonder that is Elvis Costello? And then we saw him leap onstage at the "Unwigged and Unplugged" acoustic Spinal Tap reunion for a deadpan spin on "Gimme Some Money," to which even Harry Shearer looked plainly amazed by his good fortune, and, suddenly, anything seemed possible in this great mortal coil. So, conveniently, tonight a glittery cavalcade of sexy dancers and cabaret crooners—Clams Casino and Anita Cookie, Broadway Brassy, Nasty Canasta, Jo Boobs (what a handle), and more—will pay their regards to Costello in striptease and song. Trust that even while the clothes come off, their aim is true.
