Gold Diggers of 1933

(Mervyn Leroy, 1933). The true auteur of this fascinating backstage Depression musical is not able craftsman Leroy who handles the corny plot adroitly, but the great dance director Busby Berkeley whose absurdly surreal choreography and fertile imagination enliven several great numbers. Among them, Ginger Rogers, adorned in dollars, singing "We're in the Money," and the unforgettably bleak finale, "Remember my Forgotten Man."
