(Claude Sautet, 1969). Sautet first made a few decent thrillers, but his career didn't really get under way until he shot this rich and sober study of bourgeois life. Michel Piccoli gives a beautifully understated performance as an average dude, torn between his mistress and his ex-wife with whom he's still involved.
