With the possible exception of Miles Davis's Sketches of Spain, Mangione's Feels So Good did more for the flugelhorn than any other 20th century composition. The instrument, which resembles a trumpet with a mellower, sax-like timbre, jibed well with the easy-listening muzak that emerged in the '70s. Mangione mastered smooth jazz before it became a punch line and for it earned two Grammys, forty years of gigs, and a regular guest spot on King of the Hill as a poltergeist living within the Megalomart department store.
