MODERN BRAZIL

From Rio de Janeiro to Fifth Avenue

For the past seven years, the Museum of Modern Art has teamed up with organizers of the Rio de Janeiro International Film Festival to bring the latest in feature and documentary films from Brazil. A few highlights from Premiere Brazil!include the lively If Nothing Else Works Out(José Eduardo Belmonte, 2008), which tells the story of a group of friends who can't quite get what they want; Last Stop 174(Bruno Barreto, 2008), about a woman who mistakenly believes she has found her kidnapped son living on the streets; and Cinderella, Wolves, and a Charming Prince(Joel Zito Araújo, 2008), which is like a Brazilian Pretty Woman—except these prostitutes who venture out into the world of sex tourism never find their Richard Gere.
