OPPOSITES ATTRACT

Brooklyn's favorite experimentalists the Dirty Projectors play an unexpected show

"Definitely, you can come and live with us," the Dirty Projectors' Dave Longstreth sings on "Temecula Sunrise" from 2009's Bitte Orca. Could there be a more inviting/creepy lyric to emerge this year? Maybe "I saw the horizon, and I had to know where it all ends," from Magnolia Electric Co.'s "Josephine," comes close. It's hard to imagine these very different bands playing together (the Midwest's Magnolia Electric Co. is, essentially, a country band, and the Dirty Projectors, well, aren't a country band), but digging deeper, it makes more sense. Both bands released their career highlights in 2009, and both continue to explore the line between traditionalism and experimentation. Still, don't expect a DP/MEC duet. With White Denim.
