SHAPE UP, NEW YORK!

Start your day with fitness classes outdoors

Who says you need a gym to get in shape? The NYC Department of Parks and Recreation has put together an amazing lineup of morning fitness programs—a fine way for amateurs to tone up in the city's great outdoors at some very scenic locales. A sampling for today: Fitness Walking, in Fort Tryon Park, includes walking, stretching, strengthening, and body toning (7:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m.); Bryant Park Tai Chi (7:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m.); Yoga in Union Square (8 a.m. to 9 a.m.); and Brooklyn Bridge Boot Camp (9 a.m. to 10 a.m.). These programs and others are going on all summer and are free. Note: Classes are cancelled in the event of inclement weather.
