For a guy who seems pretty convinced that an iPhone might steal his soul, Jack White sure is a busy little multitasker. His newest side project, the Dead Weather, finds the White Stripes frontman (on drums, this time) teamed up with Alison Mosshart of the Kills, Dean Fertita of Queens of the Stone Age, and Jack Lawrence of the Raconteurs, the last of which is, of course, another of White's side projects; on Horehound, the Dead Weather's just-released debut, White and his new pals sound like a female-fronted Led Zeppelin cover band (if Led Zepplin hadn't made any records past Led Zeppelin II). Not exactly an ability-stretcher, then, but good fun, nonetheless. Buzzed-about openers Screaming Females, from New Brunswick, are very aptly named.
