Blood Simple

(Joel Coen, 1984). Coen's neo-noir about all the nasty things that can happen when a Texas strip bar-owner hires a sleazy private eye to kill his wife and her lover is heavily derived from James M. Cain's crime novels, although its characters don't possess any of Cain's complexities. But full of bravura camera work and well acted, it's thoroughly entertaining.
