FREDO LIVES ON

Paying tribute to the actor John Cazale

Though the name "John Cazale" might not ring a bell, you'd certainly know him by his other name—Fredo, the sensitive mobster in Godfathers I and II. Cazale's career was cut far too short: He starred in only five feature films—all of which were nominated for the Academy Award for Best Picture—before he died at the age of 42 of bone cancer. BAM's new series, Rediscovering John Cazale, looks back on his career with a screening of both Godfathers, The Deer Hunter, The Conversation, and, showing July 29, Dog Day Afternoon. You'll also see the New York premiere of the Sundance 2009 favorite I Knew It Was You (showing July 29 and 30 only), a 40-minute portrait of the actor, which features interviews with former girlfriend Meryl Streep, Robert De Niro, Gene Hackman, Francis Ford Coppola, and, of course, Al Pacino, who was Cazale's roommate at the start of their careers.
July 29-Aug. 2, 2009
