Malajube

2006's Trompe-l'oeil made Montreal's Malajube as famous as Celine Dion, hailed as the sole Francophone art stars of the then-burgeoning scene. (How famous? Single "Pate Filo" was used for a cell phone commercial even though the lyrics were in French. Could that even happen in the States?) Now nominated un autre fois for the Canadian Polaris Prize, 2009's Labyrinthes dares to get weird with errant Tropicalia strings, screechy vocal solos, and piano-driven, blistering dirge. With the King Left.
