Pete Yorn

When Pete Yorn debuted in the early Aughts, his craggy voice, earnest lyrics, and proud hooks separated him from the Jack Johnsons, John Mayers, David Grays, and other milquetoasts that dominated adult-alternative radio. Then he released a couple of lackluster follow-ups that stymied his rise to the top of the middle. His latest, Back and Fourth, is on par with his onetime competition. However, his forthcoming collaboration album with Scarlett Johansson, Break Up, is promising, as he's billed it as sort of a Gainsbourg-Bardot tribute. We're just hoping that means there'll be an accordion. With Zee Avi.
