HEY, NOW

These kids are all right

Further-—or, OK, initial—proof that marching band is the path to greatness: Now, Now Every Children, who began scribbling their sweetly diffident rock ditties after such rehearsals in Blaine, Minnesota. But their young core, Cacie Dalager (vocals/guitar) and Bradley Hale (drums) bend more to Mates of State and Yo La Tengo than John Philip Sousa; Dalager's high babydoll purrs are whip-smart without any treacle, her strings ambient and discordant to Hale's meter-juggling theatrics (start with "In My Chest," should ye be skeptical). They're fully realized, if not fully grammatical, indie rockers: some innocence but no naïveté. With Bad Veins.
