Rhys Chatham

This year, there is a rain plan for Rhys Chatham's A Crimson Grail and praise Thor for that; last summer, torrential storms stymied the New York premiere of Chatham's maximal minimalist masterpiece for 200 guitars. Better wiring and staging should save the cream of New York's art strummers from certain electrocution in the case of rain, allowing them to fill Lincoln Center's Damrosch Park with a shimmering, encompassing wall of rich drone, arranged in a horseshoe around the audience. An exercise in spatial acoustics and sound-induced bliss as much as composition, A Crimson Grail is not to be missed. Especially in the rain. With Liquid Liquid.
