We're not quite sure who was a worse mother—Joan Crawford in Mommie Dearest or Margaret White in Carrie. If we had to choose between being hit with a wire hanger or being held prisoner in a prayer room and scorned for being a sinner for having our first period, we'd pick Crawford any day. Poor Carrie White—she had no choice but to develop her telekinetic skills and wreak havoc on all those who made her life miserable, which is everyone minus the kindly gym teacher. The 1976 horror flick starring Sissy Spacek, and based on the Stephen King novel, includes hilarious scenes with John Travolta (who plays Nancy Allen's goofball love slave of a boyfriend) and the infamous tampon-throwing shower intro. The '70s were so cruel.
