Amy Ray+Jennifer O'Connor

Indigo Girl Amy Ray's solo work is where she cuts loose. She writes political, punk-influenced lyrics, turns up a Southern rock vibe (it's OK, she's from Georgia), and lets the scraps fall where they may. She's even gone so far as to say that fellow Indigo Girl Emily Saliers, who's written the bulk of that duo's hits, would sound "weird" in Ray's off-the-clock music. Of course, none of that matters much to her fans. Opener Jennifer O'Connor writes indie rock that's not too far removed from Indigo Girls, in that it's catchy, varied, and smart. With Joemca & the Poets.
