From the surreal graphic cartoons of Obits frontman Rick Froberg to street artist Elbow-Toe’s painting of hoodie-wearing squirrels tagging a wall, Beach Blanket Bingo: A Summer Mixer at the Jonathan LeVine Gallery features more than 30 artists who all seem to share a love of the wickedly absurd. Local and international artists are represented in the show, which features a range of media, from sculptures and drawings to paintings and spray paintings. Some of the more remarkable pieces on display include Ron English’s painting of a strangely sexy cow in a bikini, Cleon Peterson’s Viciousseries (yellow-and-black paintings of people killing each other in a forest), and Louie Cordero’s bust of a bloody-mouthed boy—don’t let him bite you on your way out.
