Corridor of Mirrors

Dir. Terence Young (1948). Arguably the most peculiar British movie of the 1940s, this bizarre gothic reincarnation drama was shot in France where it seems to have picked up a few of Jean Cocteau's surrealizing mannerisms. Striking South African diva Edana Romney co-wrote and stars—the whole nutty affair seems a vanity project of hers. This was Young's directorial debut--he would go on to give James Bond his first cinematic outing.
