Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeros

Sharpe is actually Alex Ebert, whose name should be familiar to people who scour the liner notes of CDs from record-store dollar bins. He used to front the goofy L.A. synth-rock outfit Ima Robot, which also featured top-tier session dudes Joey Waronker and Justin Meldal-Johnsen. With the Magnetic Zeros, he makes a psychedelic folk-rock racket that sounds like Lee Hazlewood jamming with Arcade Fire. With Preacher and the Knife.
