The Fallen Idol

Dir. Carol Reed (1948). Although it's not as well known as The Third Man, this is an equally great Reed picture, also based on a Graham Greene story. It's the director's most moving film, and a suspense story on the highest level. Bobby Henrey (in a brilliant child star performance) plays the lonely son of a diplomat in London whose affection for the butler (masterly Ralph Richardson) leads to unforeseen consequences when he's drawn into the man's tangled personal life.
