It feels like the 2006 Winter Olympics were forever ago, but before Michael Phelps swam into our consciousness, last year as the most alluring male Olympian, there was Johnny Weir. The most swishy and sparkly man on the ice (and that's saying a lot), the eighth-ranked figure skater in the world also spends his time hanging out with Kathy Griffin and modeling for Heatherette. Get the picture? A documentary about his career, Pop Star on Ice, screens tonight as part of Best of NewFest, a reprisal of some of the LGBT film festival's finest. Among the other NewFest films playing this weekend is An Englishman in New York, a biopic on the ultimate English dandy Quentin Crisp, that stars John Hurt, Denis O'Hare, and Cynthia Nixon.
Sat., Aug. 29, 2 p.m.; Sun., Aug. 30, 2 p.m., 2009
