THE SHOW MUST GO ON

The Knitting Factory returns, as God and Bedford intended it

Ah, the Knitting Factory; God rest its Tribeca bones. The triple-decker club, in its original downtown incarnation, was a tremendous display of squalor: From the tropical humidity, to the intractably sticky floors, to the inexhaustible amp feedback that permeated the pores, it was an unapologetic bastion of leftist celebrity, and everyone has a debauched anecdote that originated on its rickety steps. (Or a romantic one: My worst backroom transgression culminated in my best friend meeting her fiancé.) Such a place is too good to die, even nowadays, so the Knitting Factory Grand Opening in its new Williamsburg space is absolutely not to be missed. Appropriately ebullient post-hardcore rockers Les Savy Fav will headline, hopefully with ample tracks from 2007's fiendish Let's Stay Friends (fingers crossed, also, that screw-loose singer Tim Harrington will doff his best ladies' nightgown for the occasion). Comedian Hannibal Buress opens. Excelsior!
Wed., Sept. 9, 7 p.m., 2009
