FRUITILY DELICIOUS

Folk pop to soak up

Eric D. Johnson splits his time between the Shins and the Fruit Bats—and while the former still have yet to save your addled life, the latter will almost certainly reinvigorate your summer. The Portland fivesome are a sweet, winsome shot of folk-pop spontaneity, and their gentle harmonic yelps pop out from psych and acoustic guitars like the final September flowers. Fourth album The Ruminant Bandcaught fire upon its August 4 release; hold onto it—and, with it, summer. With Iran and Kevin Barker.
