Little Fugitive

Dir. Morris Engel (1953). Coney Island was never more lovingly depicted and few movies have been more dedicated to a child's point of view and this tale of a dour seven-year-old who takes it on the lam, running away from deepest Bensonhurst because neighborhood kids led him to believe he plugged his older brother with a cap gun. Funny? Yes. Colorful? Undoubtedly. Cute? Not really—and that's the beauty part.
