Quiz Show

Dir. Robert Redford (1994). Entertainingly literate, dialogue-rich, and performer-juiced, Quiz Show is closer in tone to sociological sci-fi than the remembrance of times past. The movie was attacked for taking dramatic license in telescoping the chronology of the mid ‘50s quiz show scandals (and exaggerating Richard Goodwin’s importance). As Jean-Luc Godard once pointed out, however, “In filmmaking you can either start with fiction or documentary. But whichever you start with, you inevitably find the other.”
