Suspiria

Dir. Dario Argento (1976). A naïve American (wide-eyed Jessica Harper) arrives in Germany to study ballet at a deco-mod cum secessionist-bordello institute administered by two scary harridans, ferociously smiling Alida Valli and ‘40s noirista Joan Bennett, channeling Edie the Egg Lady. A splendid extended finale unwraps the school’s secrets in a light show of lysergic apparitions and exploding chandeliers, although Dario Argento’s rhapsodic gore-fest only makes sense to the eye and even then.
Fridays-Sundays, 7:30 & 9:30 p.m. Starts: Sept. 11. Continues through Sept. 13, 2009
