More About
Watching this Brooklyn band play unplugged, as theyll do tonight, at first seems utterly besides the point: Asobi Seksu are known for their layers (and layers) of post-shoegaze guitars, not for their folky ruminations on, say, the virtue of an honest days work. Yet as they demonstrated on a lovely acoustic album they recorded last year at Londons Olympic Studios, singer Yuki Chikudate and guitarist James Hanna are actually solid little tunesmiths with a firm grasp on the art of the hook; theres more going on in Asobi Seksus songs than at first appears to be the case. Theyve been selling the acoustic disc at shows for most of this year, but tonights gig previews Polyvinyls official release in November.
