Adalen Riots (Adalen 31)

Dir. by Bo Widerberg (1969). MOMA is showing this excellent film which was written and directed by Widerberg as part of its Roy Andersson retro, although Andersson only worked on it as an assistant. The picture is a view of a tragic episode in modern Swedish history and concerns a working class family which suffers during a lengthy strike at a paper mill in 1931 that ends with five workers coldly shot dead by the authorities.
