Something wicked this way rumbles: The three main performers tonight form a sort of triumvirate of underground instrumental metal. Bicoastal duo Sunn O))) wallow in earth-shaking brown-sound drones and often feature robe-clad guest musicians (more druid than Dude) such as Attila Csihar (of black metallers Mayhem). Seattle's Earth are drone granddaddies (Kurt Cobain was a fan), though lately they’ve dabbled more with Morricone-like soundscapes. And lastly, Chicago's Pelican have expanded their initial doom-metal knuckle dragging into a cinematic post-metal fête. With Eagle Twin.
