'China Underground: Sounds from the Mongolian Grasslands'

Seismic bi-tonal throat singing, twanging jaw harps, two-stringed lutes, and horse-hair fiddling characterize the traditional sounds of Inner Mongolia, which are reanimated by the young Beijing group Hanggai. Their recent debut album augments folk arrangements with modern percussion and hypnotic electronics, so expect plenty of leaping back and forth across the centuries.
