Fanny and Alexander

Dir. by Ingmar Bergman (1982). The most accessible of Bergman's major works, this pungent, enchanting and sumptuously produced period piece is a rich tapestry of childhood memories and moods, (largely seen through the eyes of a small boy) set in the university town of Uppsala where a well-to-do family has come together to celebrate the Christmas of 1907.
