Yo La Tengo

Always game to try a big room, Yo La Tengo's solution to conquering Roseland Ballroom involves bringing along the Black Lips, Susquehanna Industrial Tool & Die Co. (playing in the lobby), and a light show by Gary Panter, who designed Pee Wee's Playhouse, and Joshua White, who ran the Joshua Light Show at the Fillmore East. (Panter and White last lit YLT for three psyched-out improv sets at Anthology Film Archives a few years back.) Of course, it helps that the Hoboken vets have a typically brilliant new album, Popular Songs, and one of the deepest repertoires in indie rock.
