BOOGIE NIGHTS

A fond look back at the disco underground

Forget everything you know about disco from Saturday Night Fever—tonight’s party for the launch of Vince Aletti’s new book The Disco Files 1973–78 promises to bring you “the original disco underground.” Dance the night away to Tony Smith, from the first wave of New York disco DJs, and Danny Krivit, a DJ in the city for 30 years, as well as other special guests. The evening is a tribute to Aletti, formerly the Voice’s art critic, who was the first to chronicle the emerging disco scene and its vast array of colorful characters and clubs in countless articles for this paper, Rolling Stone, Record World, and other publications. It’s going to be one nostalgia trip worth taking.
