'Festival of New Trumpet Salutes Bobby Bradford'

Brass buffs know Bradford's wily lines, but because the 75-year-old bandleader and educator spent his career on the West Coast (telling album title: Lost in L.A.), he's never gotten the props his art warrants. The FONT curators rectify this somewhat, celebrating his lyrical freebop by presenting both his Quintet and Octet. Former student David Murray sits in each night, superb trumpeter Baikida Carroll lends a hand, and FONT provides a nice ramp-up by positioning impressive improvisers Ambrose Akinmusire and Jeremy Pelt (who are in turn joined by trumpeters young and old) in gigs on Oct 1st and 2nd. Get ready for horns of plenty.
Sat., Oct. 3, 7:30 & 9:30 p.m.; Sun., Oct. 4, 7:30 & 9:30 p.m., 2009
