PERFECT DRIVE

Take a day trip to West Point for college football action

This is your chance to enjoy a college football game, witness firsthand the fine art of tailgating (which Army Cadets fans perfected long ago), and enjoy a drive up the Hudson on an autumn day. Plus it’s homecoming, which means extra festivities. You don’t have to be pro-military to enjoy walking on the manicured lawns lined with the legendary stone buildings—think Tyrone Power and Maureen O’Hara in John Ford’s The Long Gray Line—and be sure to stop by the vista point looking over the Hudson. The football should be fine, too: Both Army and Tulane are NCAA Division I schools, but the edge goes to Army (2-1), as Tulane is winless as we go to press. Tickets are available at $36 each, and there are no bad seats in Michie Stadium, whose 40,000-seat capacity seems cozy compared to Giants Stadium.
