Dir. Billy Wilder (1959). Two jazz musicians—Tony Curtis and Jack Lemmon—witness a gangster massacre, escaping Chicago disguised as members of an all-female band whose featured performer is Marilyn Monroe (never sweeter—although her onset antics caused Curtis to complain that kissing her was like “kissing Hitler”). A corpse-littered farce riffing on homosexuality, cross-dressing, impotence, and masochism, Billy Wilder’s greatest comedy was so popular that one of the networks considered using it as the basis for a sitcom.
Fridays-Sundays; Mon., Oct. 5; Tue., Oct. 6. Starts: Oct. 2. Continues through Oct. 4, 2009
