Penélope Cruz and Pedro Almodóvar discuss their latest

Reminiscing about the first time he worked with Penélope Cruz on 1997’s Live Flesh, the Spanish director Pedro Almodóvar told the New York Times, “I remember that our biggest problem was how to make her look ugly. All the very humble, secondhand ’70s clothes we had bought looked wonderful on her.” We imagine that’s still a problem for the director, who chose the lovely Cruz to star in his latest, Broken Embraces, their fourth film together.
