Boomerang!

Dir. Elia Kazan (1947). Kazan's third film was shot on location in Connecticut, in a semi-documentary style—there's not a set in it. It concerns the efforts of a state's attorney to uncover the truth about a murder. Kazan cast it mostly with his "regular" New York gang—look carefully and you'll spot Arthur Miller in a police line-up. Without the basic training of this engrossing picture, the director might not have been able to manage the docks of On the Waterfront.
