LESBIAN LEXICON

Murray Hill expounds upon the 'lez' label

One of the nuttiest "only in New York" events is back for the ninth year, and this time, host Murray Hill is making sure we know exactly what it's all about. The annual Miss Lez Pageant provides a platform where LGBT folk—representing club nights, shows, and groups with a lesbian bent—compete for a couple bucks, a vibrator, and the admiration of all of downtown. But what is a "lez," might you ask? Besides the traditional carpet-muncher, the six contestants may also come from the "queercore, boi, shim, intersex, gender variance, F to F, womyn, or trans" communities. Also hard-to-define/wonderfully individualistic are the "celesbians" serving as judges, such as performance artist Glenn Marla (a former pageant winner), drag queen Linda Simpson, and the Voice's own Michael Musto. It'll be unforgettable.
