For all of the Mars Volta member Omar Rodríguez-López's massive output in 2009 (including said band's fifth studio album, an album on Stones Throw, two kinda ambient ones, one that name-checks Fassbinder, and a full-length from the band he does with Hella's Zach Hill), that's nothing compared to the exhaustive Mars Volta live experience. Despite assurances that Octahedron, this year's entry, was "acoustic," it was anything but. Expect nothing smaller nor denser than a holy mountain of riffs, soaring eagle solos, percussive rockslides, castrato wails and the like, hour after hour after hour.
