Everyone has an evil twin; this is just scientific fact. In fact, yours is standing right behind you with a knife—take a look, when you get a moment. Further corroborating this, the doppelgänger of Antony Hegarty, of eerie NY chamber poppers Antony and the Johnsons, has been unearthed in Toronto; Taylor Kirk, a/k/a Timber Timbre, shares the marblemouthed poignancy and sly folk-to-blues liquidity, but also subverts his glacial leanings occasionally with odd and wonderful influences. His third record, this year's self-titled release, tamps down the apathy with tinny, vaguely sitar-like riffs ("Until the Night Is Over") and brisk electro waltz ("Lay Down in the Tall Grass"). In his efforts, there is a uniquely creepy beauty; still, don't put him in a room with Antony, or the universe may collapse. With Kate-Miller Heidke.
