It is a myth that only the strong survive the CMJ Music Marathon; really, only the stupid do. Because anyone who attempts to scale all five days of downtown's most exhilarating, hysterical multi-venue festival—anyone who would brave, say, folk-poppers Fanfarlo with the Antlers (Music Hall of Williamsburg, October 20), aptly named howlers Screaming Females with Team Robespierre (Mercury Lounge, October 21), gritty folkster Miles Benjamin Anthony Robinson with Old Canes (Knitting Factory Brooklyn, October 22), tweaky no-fi rockers Japandroids with Cale Parks (Bell House, October 23), and metal ne'er-do-wells Goatwhore with Pigdestroyer (Rocks Off Concert Cruise, October 24)—shall need an immense pain threshold or a slow, slow uptake. Or both, if you're going to punk ascetics Pissed Jeans (Mercury Lounge, October 24). See you at all of the above, and many more of the hundreds of other up-and-coming acts sprinkled around the city in proud college radio representation.
