Marty Ehrlich Rites Quartet

The esteemed reed player knows about the fine points of building a band, and the inclusion of Erik Friedlander's swinging cello gives this small ensemble almost as much personality as the boss's compositions. An agile aggregation with a trumpet/alto front line might warrant Ornette comparisons, but Ehrlich's stylistic individuality has been secure for years now; it has a lot to do with warm-hearted freebop. You can hear the blood flowing all over the new Things Have Got to Change.
