Radio Is a Sound Salvation

Tune in to the Radio Festival

There was a time when turning the dial on the radio meant uncovering thrilling new signals. Well, in spite of our new technology, the heroes over at free103point9 refuse to allow that old-fashioned excitement to just disappear, not as long as their annual Radio Festival keeps blaring loudly. The three-day radio art and experimentation festival features radio installation, performance, theater, walks, and a transmitter-building workshop, with live video Web streams. Yes, you read correctly: Make your own radio! The radio lab instructors will assist you in building an FM radio transmitter for you to keep. Also not to be missed is Tony Martin's Radio Light Pendulum, a stand-alone kinetic sculpture/temporal instrument comprised of a six-inch-diameter glass pendulum suspended with a nylon line that moves based on the Earth's rotation and conditions of air flow.
Thursdays-Saturdays, 8 p.m.; Saturdays, 12, 4:30 & 6 p.m. Starts: Oct. 22. Continues through Oct. 24, 2009
