THE ROOF NEEDS A BUYER

Do-gooders converge for a new Brooklyn cultural space

North Brooklyn, the world leader in unexpected building repurposing, will hopefully come one step closer to becoming a badly needed local activism hub with Raise the Roof, a benefit concert for the Northside Town Hall Community and Cultural Center. The space, redeveloped in the former Engine Company 212 firehouse in Williamsburg, will serve as the nucleus for both Neighbors Allied for Good Growth and the People's Firehouse, Inc. Raise the Roof will fully take advantage of its neighborhood star power: glib power-poppers Nada Surf, cheekily arcane jesters They Might Be Giants, and Charles Bissell of plaintive rockers the Wrens share the bill with celebrity DJs, local artists, and more. So bolster a great charity; there are worse ways to be a good person.
